Welke plaats heeft kunst ten tijde van oorlog? Voor het Oekraïense illustratorencollectief Pictoric is tekenkunst een vorm van verzet, expressie en saamhorigheid geworden. Sinds het begin van de Russische invasie maakt deze groep kunstenaars indrukwekkende illustraties over de oorlog in hun land.
De tentoonstelling Beeld uit Oekraïne presenteert een verzameling illustraties over de oorlog in Oekraïne gemaakt door Pictoric in de afgelopen weken. Deze actuele kunst geeft de directe ervaring van Oekraïeners met schok, angst, woede en trots weer. Het is een unieke en indringende manier om Oekraïeners zelf aan het woord te laten over de oorlog. De illustraties in deze tentoonstelling zijn gemaakt door Mari Kinovych, Grasya Oliyko, Nataliia Shulga, Oleg Gryshchenko, Masha Foya, Oksana Drachkovska, Daria Filippova, Veronika Kotyk en Olga Shtonda.
Pictoric Illustrators Club is een collectief van Oekraïense illustratoren, grafisch ontwerpers en kunstenaars dat in 2014 is opgericht door Olena Staranchuk, Oleh Gryshchenko, and Anna Sarvira. Hun werken kenmerken zich door een karakteristieke, moderne stijl en een treffend gebruik van kleur en vorm. De illustratoren van Pictoric ontwierpen eerder al een prachtige serie illustraties geïnspireerd op de hedendaagse Oekraïense cultuur, gewoontes en het dagelijks leven – genaamd Yellow & Blue. Met deze hoogwaardige illustraties neemt Pictoric zich voor om Oekraïense kunst en cultuur internationaal uit te dragen en te bevorderen.

What place does art have during times of war? For the Ukrainian illustrators collective Pictoric, drawing has become a form of resistance, expression and belonging. Since the start of the Russian invasion, this group of artists has been creating impressive illustrations about the war in their country.
The exhibition Visions from Ukraine presents a collection of illustrations about the war in Ukraine made by Pictoric over the course of the past weeks. This current art reflects their direct experience of shock, fear, anger and pride. It is a unique and poignant way to allow Ukrainians themselves to speak about the war. The illustrations in the exhibition are made by Mari Kinovych, Grasya Oliyko, Nataliia Shulga, Oleg Gryshchenko, Masha Foya, Oksana Drachkovska, Daria Filippova, Veronika Kotyk and Olga Shtonda.
Pictoric Illustrators Club is a collective of Ukrainian illustrators, graphic designers and artists founded in 2014 by Olena Staranchuk, Oleh Gryshchenko, and Anna Sarvira. Their works are characterized by a distinctive, modern style and a striking use of color and form. In the past, the illustrators of Pictoric have created a beautiful series of illustrations inspired by contemporary Ukrainian culture, customs and everyday life - called Yellow & Blue. Through high-quality illustrations, Pictoric aims to promote and share Ukrainian art and culture internationally.
The exhibition can be visited without entry fee until the 11th of August on the 2nd floor of the Public Library at Neude, in the city centre of Utrecht (Neude 11, Utrecht). For more information, see the library's website.
